All-Pro Patients

Dr. Skrien’s - Health Tip of the Week
All-Pro Patients

Spring has sprung, snow is gone, ice is gone, time to dust off all those softball bats, golf clubs, running shoes, volleyballs, bikes, and all those toys we play with in the summer.

Any weekend athlete who visits a chiropractor to treat the aches and pains of his or her chosen sport must feel a special kinship with the professional athletes who depend on chiropractic care to keep them in condition for hard play.

Athletes, who play professional football, hockey, baseball,  are depending more and more on staff chiropractors. The doctors of chiropractic provide adjustments for the players and coaches just before the games and regularly during the week. Chiropractic staff also travels with the teams for out of town games.

Does chiropractic help? One All-Pro reported, “For the first time since I can remember, I can enter a football game without my low back killing me.” Another said, “My performance and longevity in football was enhances by chiropractic.” “With out it I would not have set the NFL rushing record.”

So don't let those aches and pains you start to feel keep you out of action this summer. Also if you are looking to improve your performance Dr. Skrien will help your body work at a higher level then it would without chiropractic care.

Whatever you play, Dr Skrien might help your game, too.

Better Than A Back Belt

Dr. Skrien’s - Health Tip of the Week

Better Than A Back Belt

For years, many industrial workers have worn back belts or lumbar supports to help avoid common back injuries. How good are they? Prescribed after an injury, the belts do seem to provide some temporary benefit by reducing the strain on already-injured muscles.

But the belts do not prevent injury. Indeed, because they provide a false sense of security, belt-wearers may be prone to more injuries than others. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), reports that training in how to lift safely is the better approach.

Heavy lifting calls for using the muscles of the legs, not the back, to do the work. For an over sized load, it’s wise to work with another person, walking and lowering the load together. For low loads, pull the weight toward you, and then support it on one knee before lifting.

Exercise is also a key component in protecting your back. Doing the right type of exercise in the correct way will help strengthen your back and help prevent injuries. So get out from behind your desk, off the couch, out of bed and start to exercise. If not sure what exercises are good get to a certified sports chiropractic practitioner(CCSP) who is trained in proper activities to strengthen your spine.

Come see me for I am a CCSP chiropractor.

Have you had your Kids Checked??

Children and Chiropractic Care.

In my office I have many parents who have regular check up for their children’s teeth, hearing, and vision. When I ask them if they have their spines checked most respond “no”, then ask “Why?” I respond by telling them because it may be the most important check up they have. An unhealthy spine may affect the health of your child. The spine is what protects the nervous system. The nervous system controls all functions of the body. Dr. Skrien is trained to look for vertebral subluxations of the spine and extremities.  The vertebral subluxations cause the nervous system to be in a state of dis-ease, and not working properly. This will cause the health of your child to less then healthy.

Dr. Skrien Has Help Children With The Following Conditions With Chiropractic Care:
  • Bed wetting
  • Allergies
  • Sinus problems
  • Ear infections
  • Scoliosis
  • Eye problems
  • Headaches
  • Stomachaches
  • Poor concentration
  • Skin conditions
  • Hip, leg or foot pain
  • Croup
  • Headaches
  • Sport related injuries, sprains, strains of the ankle, foot, elbow, shoulder, and knees.
  • And others.

In conclusion don’t leave your children home, get them checked. For what they do know will effect their health the rest of their lives. More families are finding that periodic chiropractic checkups for their children make a big difference in their health.  Dr. Skrien is specially trained to check your child’s spine for areas of vertebral subluxations. Why not make chiropractic spinal check ups a part of your child’s health program.
